GRiZ Cancels Seven Stars Festival Following Venue Controversy

American bass artist GRiZ and his Seven Stars festival are currently navigating a challenging situation. The event, which was slated to host its second edition at Oak Ridge Farm in Virginia, has become the center of a significant controversy. The venue, a former slave plantation, sparked intense debate among fans who questioned the compatibility of the festival’s core values of inclusion and community with the site’s dark historical context.

Following the public outcry, GRiZ addressed the situation directly via social media to clarify the circumstances and outline his next steps. The artist explained that he only became aware of the sensitive nature of the venue this past Sunday. While his team had conducted research on the location, they failed to disclose the historical significance to him prior to the announcement.

Addressing the Controversy

GRiZ emphasized that the mission of his festival is deeply rooted in social justice, charity, and community building. He acknowledged that hosting the event at a former slave plantation was a fundamental contradiction to those values. In an effort to maintain integrity, the producer has decided to place the Seven Stars festival on an indefinite hiatus until his team can secure a venue that aligns with his mission and values.

The announcement has left fans divided. Discussions on the event’s subreddit highlight a range of perspectives, with some supporters arguing that locations with difficult histories can be reclaimed, while others stand firmly behind the decision to cancel. As is often the case with such complex issues, reaching a consensus among the community has proven difficult.

Looking Ahead

Despite the cancellation of Seven Stars, GRiZ remains focused on his upcoming projects. The artist is scheduled to return to the Gorge Amphitheater next May for the second iteration of GRiZTronics. The three-day camping event, held over Memorial Day weekend, will feature a curated lineup including artists such as Cannabliss, Clozee, Whethan, Inzo, Eazybaked, Jkyl & Hyde, and Daily Bread.
