OMNOM is teaming up with rapper and multidisciplinary artist Tommy Genesis for ‘Pressure,’ a new vocal-driven house record arriving through Insomniac Records.
The collaboration pairs two artists with distinctly unconventional approaches to their respective genres. OMNOM has spent years developing a bass-heavy style of house that rarely takes itself too seriously. Genesis brings a similarly provocative approach to hip-hop, building her career around music that explores sexuality, identity and self-expression.
‘Pressure’ finds common ground between those worlds. Genesis’ restrained vocals sit against a darker tech house groove before the production builds around heavy low-end movement, sharp percussion and increasingly warped synth work. Her delivery remains at the center of the record rather than serving as a short vocal sample around the drop.
The pairing also arrives during a particularly active period for OMNOM. The Los Angeles producer recently returned to Insomniac Records with ‘Take You There’ through HYPERBEAM, his collaborative project with Australian producer Odd Mob. Released July 24, the bass house single continued a partnership that has grown considerably since the pair launched HYPERBEAM.
OMNOM and Odd Mob previously found major success together with ‘Losing Control.’ The 2023 collaboration reached No. 1 on Beatport’s overall Top 100 and entered Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. That success helped establish the creative partnership that eventually developed into HYPERBEAM.
Tommy Genesis Brings a Different Energy to House Music
The Vancouver artist has spent much of her career outside traditional genre boundaries, describing her early sound as “fetish rap.” Her music combines hip-hop with provocative visual art and themes surrounding sexuality and identity.
That approach has also increasingly crossed into electronic music. Genesis has worked with artists including Marlon Hoffstadt, The Martinez Brothers and Austin Millz, alongside collaborations elsewhere in pop and hip-hop with Charli XCX, Lana Del Rey and Nessa Barrett. Her appearance on Lana Del Rey’s ‘Peppers’ also introduced her work to a considerably broader audience.
‘Pressure’ gives her another route into club music while remaining closely aligned with the identity she has built throughout her career. Rather than softening Genesis’ style for a house release, the collaboration uses it as the centerpiece.
The track has already started reaching DJs ahead of its wider release. Nicky Romero featured ‘Pressure’ during episode 732 of Protocol Radio, while Martin Garrix included the extended mix on episode 624 of The Martin Garrix Show.
For OMNOM, the release adds another solo record alongside a year dominated by touring and HYPERBEAM. It also brings him back to Insomniac Records, a label that has played a recurring role throughout his catalog.
