• Interesting take on Melodic Hardstyle
• Magical breakdown atmosphere
• Roaring kicks brimming with energy
FVCK GENRES, as the name suggests, presents unique twists on EDM genres, from Trap to Hardstyle. This aligns with the founder’s vision, LNY TNZ, a visionary known for exploring the dark areas between EDM genres with majesty.
The label’s commitment to this vision is evident in various reviews of mine. Now, there’s an EP series for new talents called “Out Of The Box,” and our journey begins with its third edition.
The EP features four tracks, each talent revisiting a genre: Adieh Flowz with Bass/Tech House, BASS OF SPADES & Bad Grizz with Rawstyle, Bashment YC with Trap, and Benster with Melodic Hardstyle. It’s a hot selection, and I recommend listening to the whole EP as some ideas are truly crazy!
Our top pick is “Some Kind Of Magic” for two reasons. First, Melodic Hardstyle aligns with my personal tastes, so I was most impressed here. Second, the work on the breakdown’s atmosphere and the lead is stunning. Benster, in his first release on a major label, delivers a sensational tune with an explosive Hardstyle drop that radiates energy with every kick.
The technical level is excellent. The lead has a screechy vibe reminiscent of Sub Zero Project, and the kick’s brutality is impressive. The breakdown features a hypnotic loop and takes its time to build up to the climax with a slow and steady lead sequence. It naturally distances itself from usual clichés, making me almost forget it was Hardstyle, only to bring it back with a “standard” formula in the drop.
This is a very interesting debut. In an EP where standing out was objectively difficult, Benster did it with a lethal combination of technical skills and emotional points. “Some Kind Of Magic” perfectly describes my thoughts while listening to this banger. I’m happy that FVCK GENRES is rewarding talent with this series. Let’s see how this will evolve.
