Popular DJ and producer Diplo is facing the consequences of a party he hosted last year. The Major Lazer member threw a party in June of last year at the iconic Cala d’Hort viewpoint in Ibiza. The location overlooks the Es Vedrà island, a protected area by the European Union. Now, the artist is facing €300,000 in fines for throwing an unlicensed event on the premises.
This is a similar situation that Katy Perry recently found herself in. Last year, the artist recorded a music video on the UNESCO World Heritage island of Formentera. In consequence, local officials launched an investigation, as her production team did not have a permit to shoot in this location.
The Fine
After Diplo had invited hundreds of social media followers to the Cala d’Hort viewpoint for a pop up party. Local officials launched an investigation. Then, the Sant Josep City Council confirmed Diplo had launched an unlicensed event. The fine is now set for €300,000. Per the City Council, the area is a natural area of special interest.
The council condemned the DJs actions, as the Cala d’Hort is vulnerable to smoke, fire, noise, and waste.
Diplo has not made any comments regarding the fine yet. However, he is performing at Pacha Ibiza July 2nd.
