Josh Wink, Christopher Coe, and Glasgow cult figure Tony Morris have joined forces on a new three-track release, Probe Your Mind (feat. Tony Morris), out now via Coe’s Awesome Soundwave label.
The release features two primary mixes—’Probe Your Mind (Wink’s Mind)’ and ‘Probe Your Mind (Coe’s Mind)’—alongside a dub version from Wink. Both tracks are built upon a shared foundation of deep basslines, tribal percussion, and Wink’s signature melodic acid textures. Morris’s dark, spoken-word monologue adds a surreal, narrative quality that cuts through the dancefloor-ready production. While Wink’s version emphasizes melodic breakdowns and immediacy, Coe’s take leans into a darker, rawer aesthetic, though the acid influence remains a constant thread throughout.
Morris’s contribution serves as the project’s wildcard. The 74-year-old Glasgow native, who only began his creative career in his late sixties following years as a bookkeeper and taxi driver, has become an unlikely but essential figure in the underground electronic scene. His work, which includes a Scottish Alternative Music Award and regular broadcasts on Clyde Built Radio, brings a unique, mutant cabaret energy to the collaboration.
Philadelphia-born Josh Wink remains a defining force in techno and acid house. With his imprint, Ovum Recordings, now spanning over 28 years, he continues to set the standard for underground electronic music. His extensive remix catalog includes work for iconic acts such as Radiohead, Moby, and Depeche Mode. Christopher Coe, meanwhile, continues to solidify Awesome Soundwave as a premier platform for forward-thinking electronic music, balancing his role as a label head with his own live techno performances.
Together, the trio creates a coherent, hypnotic soundscape that highlights the strength of their combined artistic visions. The spoken-word delivery from Morris provides a compelling contrast to the driving production of Wink and Coe, resulting in a release that is as thought-provoking as it is danceable.
