The East Coast is officially set to welcome its own version of the iconic Las Vegas Sphere. Prince George’s County has granted final approval for a massive $1.4 billion, 6,000-seat immersive venue at National Harbor, strategically located adjacent to the MGM National Harbor.
This ambitious project promises to bring the same high-end production standards to the region, featuring cutting-edge technology such as vibrating seats, immersive 4D effects, and a 16K-by-16K LED interior. Developers are touting the screen as the highest-resolution display of its kind on the planet, aiming to redefine the live entertainment experience in the D.C. area.
Projections suggest that once the venue opens in early 2030, it will generate approximately $63 million in annual tax revenue for Prince George’s County. Local officials have demonstrated significant commitment to the project, backing it with $215 million in public bonds alongside an additional $13.5 million in state funding. Following successful negotiations regarding labor agreements, the project is now fully cleared for development.
For the electronic music community, this development represents a major milestone. A purpose-built, high-tech immersive space of this scale, situated near a major casino and the nation’s capital, provides an ideal canvas for the next generation of audiovisual spectacles. While the technology is already primed for deployment, the industry now turns its attention to which artists and promoters will be the first to utilize this state-of-the-art facility.
