Josh Wink has unveiled a compelling new single titled ‘Futurama,’ now available via his esteemed imprint, Ovum Recordings. The backstory behind this release is as evocative as the music itself; the Philadelphia-based producer constructed the track around a long-lost tape he unearthed in 2025 while excavating his personal archives. The recording captured his inaugural Los Angeles rave performance from 1994, an event also titled ‘Futurama.’
Revisiting that seminal set after more than three decades served as a profound catalyst for Wink. He returned to the studio with a singular objective: not to mimic the past, but to capture the visceral, transformative energy that defined that specific moment in electronic music history.
‘Futurama’ leans heavily into sharp acid lines and the palpable tension that characterized early 1990s rave culture. However, the production is distinctly contemporary, engineered for modern sound systems rather than the warehouse PAs of yesteryear. It functions less as a nostalgic throwback and more as a sophisticated translation, filtering the raw spirit of discovery through the lens of a veteran artist who has spent thirty years refining his craft.
