The East Coast is officially set to host its own version of the revolutionary immersive venue experience. Prince George’s County has granted final approval this week for a $1.4 billion, 6,000-seat project at National Harbor, situated adjacent to the MGM National Harbor. This development promises to bring a scaled-down version of the Las Vegas Sphere to the region, featuring the same high-end production capabilities that have redefined live entertainment.
The venue is designed to offer a fully immersive experience, complete with vibrating seats, advanced 4D effects, and a 16K-by-16K LED interior. Developers claim this will be the highest-resolution screen on the planet, providing a visual fidelity that matches its West Coast counterpart. With a projected opening in early 2030, the facility is expected to be a significant economic driver, generating an estimated $63 million in annual tax revenue for Prince George’s County.
Local officials have demonstrated strong commitment to the project, securing $215 million in public bonds alongside $13.5 million in state funding. While the project faced rigorous negotiations regarding labor agreements, it is now fully cleared for construction.
For the electronic dance music community, this development represents a major milestone. A purpose-built, high-tech immersive room of this scale, located just outside the nation’s capital and next to a major casino, offers an ideal environment for the next generation of audiovisual spectacles. As the technology continues to evolve, the industry is already looking ahead to which artists and promoters will be the first to utilize this cutting-edge space for their productions.
