Over the weekend, thousands of people gathered for a pool rave in the birthplace of COVID-19. Since the beginning of 2020, Wuhan has undergone an extremely severe lockdown, but that doesn’t seem to be the case any longer.
Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park
The pool rave was held at the Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park. Thousands of people crowded together and dancing, while others floated in innertubes. Guests were not following social distancing guidelines or wearing masks.
Photos of the pool rave have spread across social media. By the looks of things, one could easily conclude that the people of Wuhan no longer fear the virus.
While the United States is still struggling to contain the virus, Wuhan and other areas around the world are returning to a normal life. At the start of 2020, Wuhan went on strict multiple month lockdowns and cut themselves off from the rest of the world.
According to The Complex, “It seems that the city of 11 million in Hubei province has been free of new virus cases since mid-May. The Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park resumed operations in late June, but over a month of seasonal rain dissuaded crowds from coming out. Now, the water park sees an average of 15,000 daily visitors during the weekends, Hubei Daily reports.”
The Complex article also explained how the city shut down public transportation and residents were forced to stay in their homes regardless of their needs. Thanks to their rigorous lockdown the city was able to contain the outbreak. For three months, the city hasn’t reported any new cases. Whatever they did seems to have worked, but only time will tell.
For now, we will need to do our best to follow safety protocols and hope we can slow the spread of this virus. It might not be as exciting as a pool party in Wuhan, but at least we have the live streams to look forward to.
