Sydney will host a 6-Week Music and Arts Festival in an Abandoned Cinema

Looking for 6-weeks of music, food, drink and art in September and October? Then Pleasures Playhouse might be for you!

The concept is simple, take an abandoned building in the CBD and pack it full of live performances, DJ sets and art shows as well as local food and wine collaborations. The result is a new temporary venue for “fun and self-expression” in what was an abandoned cinema for the last 15 years.

Pleasures Playground is headed up by Kat Dopper, founder of Heaps Gay and Summer Camp Festival and supported by the NSW government and their CBD revitalisation project. So both creativity and support are in place for a legitimate festival and experience.

Music nights will be run by a collection of sub-genre artists and collectives including Haiku Hands, Monster Children, Carolina Gasolina, Planet Trip/Crown Ruler, Donny Benet and Bare Necessities. If sex and body positivity events are for you then you’ll want to lock into parties by Heaps Gay, Athletica NLV presents PLACE and more.

Adding to that are sleazy cabaret shows with a full live house band, “Send Noods Cinema” – as well as Arthouse movies on Tuesdays with Natty wines from P&V & Noodles from Biang Biang and dining experiences celebrating local Chinatown restaurants.

In total there will be 35 events running at the iconic Harbour City Cinema in Chinatown from Thursday, September 22 – Monday October 31.

Want to grab tickets? They’ve just gone on-sale with nothing over $30 keeping this accessible and fun. We’re heading, are you?
