• Drilling, hypnotic melody
• Energetic leads that fit STMPD’s signature vibe
• Lacks Skytech‘s sparks of genius
It’s been 10 years since the first R3HAB and Skytech collaboration. Remember “Tiger“? What a banger. I couldn’t have guessed back then that, a decade later, the Dutch and Polish producers would have built such a fruitful partnership, with over a dozen tracks and remixes released together.
Typically, Skytech brings an Electro House edge to their collaborations, and that’s exactly what happened with today’s track, “Hypnotising“. The name fits perfectly—that drilling melody is surprisingly hypnotic. What’s also surprising is the label: Martin Garrix’s STMPD.
It makes sense, though. “Hypnotising” has a sound reminiscent of Blinders, a veteran of the label, so it fits right in. But R3HAB has his own label, so this release came out of nowhere. Still, I think the STMPD audience will love it, especially with its dark mood and energetic leads.
Speaking of Blinders, this collab reminds me a lot of Skytech’s fellow Polish producer. It also brings to mind another R3HAB debut on a different label: “Run Free” with Tiësto.
So, nothing groundbreaking here, as you guessed. Just the usual vibes and sounds. But let’s be honest, it’s undeniably catchy. “Hypnotising” is a solid tune. It entertains, recycles successful dynamics well, but it lacks that spark of genius I’ve come to expect from Skytech. Still, it’s nice to see this change of tone in STMPD’s catalog.
