Groove Cruise has revealed the eight costume themes set to define its sold-out 2027 sailing, and this year the costume schedule carries a bit more weight than usual. Each theme has been mapped directly to one of the 8 Waves of The Groove Effect — the experiential framework that Groove Cruise founder Jason Beukema has been developing as the philosophical backbone of the event. The four-day voyage runs January 21-25, 2027 aboard Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas.

The 39th sailing sold out a record-breaking 11 months in advance and has grown from a gathering of 125 people into what Whet Travel bills as the world’s largest floating music festival, having brought nearly 100,000 attendees through its doors over the years. A waitlist is now open for anyone still hoping to get on board.
A notable addition for 2027: Groove Cruise will take over Royal Caribbean’s brand-new Royal Beach Club on Paradise Island as its first privately chartered experience at the destination. The beachfront stop features the Floating Flamingo — billed as the world’s largest swim-up bar — alongside multiple pools, private beach zones, and island food and drink. The entire property will be reserved exclusively for the #GCFAM during the sailing’s destination day.
Beukema framed the theme reveal in terms that go beyond wardrobe choices: “On Groove Cruise, themes have never been just about costumes. They’re permission slips. They give Captains a reason to play, connect, let go and step into parts of themselves they may not always access in everyday life. For GC27, every theme carries more intention through The Groove Effect and the 8 Waves, so the whole sailing becomes a journey. You arrive as yourself, you explore, you break patterns, you connect, and you leave with a ripple that keeps moving long after we’re back on land.”

The 2027 Theme Journey, Night by Night
The sailing opens Thursday, January 21 with Represent — Groove Cruise’s traditional first-night theme where Captains show up in hometown flags, sports jerseys, cultural icons, and personal symbols. It’s tied to Wave One: Gauge Your Frequency. Thursday night then transitions into Lost in Neverland, a moonlit fantasy built around pirates, mermaids, fairies, and general mischief, mapped to Wave Two: Ride Your Curiosity.
Friday daytime brings Naughty by Nature — think vines, butterflies, bold florals, and untamed jungle energy — aligned with Wave Three: Overcome Your Comfort Zone. After dark Friday, Cartoons Gone Wild takes over, inviting animated alter egos and full-color chaos, tied to Wave Four: Own Your Groove.

Saturday’s destination day at the Royal Beach Club gets its own theme: Flamingle, a flamingo-and-tropical-pink affair that aligns with Wave Five: Vibe With Purpose. Back on board Saturday night, To The Moon brings astronauts, metallics, iridescent extraterrestrials, and space-age looks — representing Wave Six: Embrace & Elevate.
Sunday, January 24 opens with Retro Splash & Sass, a poolside throwback pulling from ’80s neon, Y2K, and vintage swimwear, connected to Wave Seven: Spark A Ripple. The 2027 sailing closes with Cyberpunk Vice — LEDs, chrome, leather, and futuristic streetwear — serving as the culmination of Wave Eight: The Infinity, which centers on legacy and the energy that carries beyond the voyage itself.

The 2027 Lineup
The themes unfold alongside a previously announced lineup spanning house, techno, trance, melodic, bass, drum and bass, and more. Headliners include Drumcode founder Adam Beyer, Groove Cruise regular BUNT., Disco Lines, hard-groove force KETTAMA, and Eli Brown. The broader bill also features Andrew Bayer, CID, DJ Susan, Ely Oaks, Mitis, Sam Feldt, Tom Higgenson of Plain White T’s, Travis Clark of We The Kings, Trivecta, and others.
Women artists make up more than 35% of the 2027 lineup — a figure Groove Cruise has been actively pushing upward in recent editions. Confirmed female performers include Amy Wiles, Bella Renee, Jackie Hollander, Linney, Luci, Maxinne, me n u, Nifra, Raecola, Sarah de Warren, Whipped Cream, and more.
