Spotify Smart Reorder Uses AI to Make Your Playlists Into Mixes

Spotify launched its Mix feature for playlists last year, which lets users add custom transitions between tracks to create smoother playback, similar to DJ mixing. Now, Premium subscribers are getting Smart Reorder, a new tool that automatically rearranges songs in a Mixed playlist based on BPM and key for better flow.

Manually sorting tracks by tempo and key to avoid abrupt changes is time-consuming. Smart Reorder handles that automatically.

To use it: Open a playlist, enable Mix (or create a Mixed version), tap Edit, then select Smart Reorder at the bottom. It reorders the tracks accordingly—tap to apply and save.

Since the Mix feature launched (with custom transitions added in 2025), Premium users worldwide have streamed over 220 million hours of their Mixed playlists, according to Spotify.

The feature arrived after Apple Music introduced AutoMix (AI-driven beatmatching), but Spotify’s approach gives users more manual control over transitions while now simplifying the sequencing part.

Smart Reorder works on both newly created Mixed playlists and existing ones you’ve already edited. It’s especially useful if reordering songs manually feels overwhelming or time-intensive—it’s a quick way to improve transitions without much effort.
