Tiesto – Drifting

Tiesto - Drifting

• Close to Bicep’s sound
• Deep House elements
• Appealing vocals

For a while, Tiesto’s eclectic catalog has become even more dedicated towards commercial dance-pop, as his recent album “Drive” signals this move further. Breaking this pattern is his most recent release “Drifting,” which takes a different turn from the usual routine.

The song completely dons the sonic persona of Bicep’s trance breakbeat signature. The Irish duo gained massive momentum after their breakthrough song “Glue,” which introduced most to the old-school blend of trance and breakbeat, although revitalized creatively. Released back in 2017, the song quickly gathered following and millions of streams with ample spins on various dance-floors.

Now, if you have been listening to EDM for a while then you might be familiar with Tiesto’s strategy- which is capitalizing on upcoming sounds-

lending him major success. “Drifting” strikes no different than the said policy, picking up Bicep’s trademarks. The song begins with the familiar gated vocals, quite analogous to the ones in “Glue.” Set in a faster rhythm, more ear-candy arrives in the form of the lead vocals and is backed by soft plucks. Maintaining a deep house temperament, the main hook alters the groove with snappy breakbeat patterns for the drop, creating a hypnotic ambiance.

While some claimed this was a close return to his roots (Trance), that would be a slight exaggeration since this track merely lasts three minutes. While his VER:WEST alias remains dormant, “Drifting” is a welcome addition.
