John O’Callaghan and Bryan Kearney have officially returned with their latest single, ‘Final Memory’, released under their collaborative Key4050 alias. Out now on Black Hole Recordings, the track serves as the duo’s second release of the year, following their collaborative effort ‘Empty Space’ with Bo Bruce. This latest offering is a clear indicator that the pair is actively working on a new studio album.
The partnership between O’Callaghan and Kearney spans two decades, rooted in a deep history that began with the seminal track ‘Restricted Motion’. That release remains a staple in the trance community, recently receiving a vinyl reissue to celebrate its enduring legacy. Their ability to maintain a creative synergy for twenty years, particularly within the demanding realms of uplifting and tech trance, is a testament to their shared vision.
Formally established in 2015, the Key4050 project reached a milestone in 2019 with the release of Tales From The Temple. This expansive thirty-track album paid homage to the duo’s formative years in Dublin’s North Inner City club scene. While that record provided a definitive statement for the project, the years that followed saw the alias remain largely dormant until this past summer.
The momentum shifted when the duo closed out the Luminosity Beach Festival with a headline performance, using the platform to confirm that Key4050 was back in full force. Since then, the pair has been dedicated to studio sessions, with reports suggesting a new full-length project is currently in development.
‘Final Memory’ captures this renewed energy perfectly. The track features driving, rolling basslines and galloping percussion, layered with harmonic progressions that maintain a high-intensity atmosphere. A haunting female vocal refrain—”I can’t help it”—weaves through the arrangement, leading into a saw-tooth synth hook designed for peak-time festival sets.
While the future trajectory of Key4050 remains an exciting prospect, ‘Final Memory’ suggests that the duo is once again focused on delivering high-impact trance music. The single is available now via Black Hole Recordings in both original and extended mix formats.
